How To Change The Oil in Your Vehicles?

Like any car, jeep, truck, or SUV, a Recreational Vehicle (RV) requires regular maintenance. In a Recreational Vehicle, the engine oil needs to be changed about every 4000-6000 miles (this number can vary if you are using an older RV or if you are using synthetic oil). Many RV owners may be surprised to know that maintaining their RV engine is similar to maintaining the engine of a normal car.

Tools Required

Ramps

A funnel

Rags

An oil wrench

Gloves

One or more oil drain pans

A wrench and socket set

An oil filter

Paper towels

Personal eye coverings

Step-by-step procedure to change the oil in RV

Firstly ensure that your RV’s rig and engine are at the same level.

This ensures the complete draining of the old oil from your oil reservoir.

Check if your engine oil levels are giving accurate readings.

Heat the engine

This would help to thin the oil faster and

Helps suspend particulates

Use the motor oils which are correct/ suitable for your RV.

If you use the wrong motor oil, you can damage the engine very quickly.

Remove the drain plug

Place the drain pan beneath the drain plug and then change the oil

Use the wrench and socket to loosen the bolt on the oil pan

Once the bolt is removed, let the dirty oil drain into the drain pan

Ensure that every drop of dirty oil drains out

Replace your oil drain plug

Use a torque wrench to reinstall the drain plug properly

Follow the guidelines in your owner’s manual

If it is too tight, you can deform the plug

Now refill the new oil

Pour recommended amount of oil into the engine

Double-check the proper weight of the oil

On the engine and let it cool

Check for any leaks

ON the engine and let the engine run for 10 minutes

This would ensure fresh oil fully circulate through the engine

Recheck the oil levels

Use a dipstick to check the oil level

If the oil is low, add a few liters and check again.

Once satisfied with the work, you should replace the oil cap and clean all your tools. Congratulations! Your RV is ready to rock you.

You should note that one should have a maintenance schedule of changing oils at regular intervals to ensure the longevity and quality of your RV’s engine.
