How To Change Your Car Battery?

A car battery is one of the most ignored aspects by most car owners. A dead battery can cause major inconvenience to the family who depends on their car for a regular commute.

After replacing a new battery, always examine whether your new battery needs any charging before using it, as most of the batteries are almost 70% charged when you buy them.

Steps to Changing a car battery

  1. Firstly, turn off your car engine and park your car.
  2. Set the parking brake
  3. Read the car’s owner’s manual to detect the battery’s location.
  4. Remove battery hold-down clamp.
  5. Disconnect the negative cable and terminal from the negative battery post with a wrench, and then do the same with the positive cable.

  7. Lift the battery out by the strap
  8. Check the battery for any leaks
  9. Set the fasteners and parts aside to avoid spilling
  10. Check the terminals attached to the ends of the battery cables before installing.
  11. Check whether the terminals are clean and corrosion-free
  12. If the terminals are not clean, clean them using the terminal cleaning tool or a thick wire brush. 
  13. The cleaner your clamps are, the better and more positive the connection of your battery will have.

  15. Position the battery so that the positive post matches up to the positive terminal and cable’s location and the negative post matches up to the negative terminal and cable location. 
  16. Connect the hold-down clamp. 
  17. Apply a thin layer of grease to the battery posts and terminals; it will help slow down corrosion. 
  18. You can also install the anti-corrosion washers over them.
  19. Using the wrench, you should tighten all of the associated bolts. 
  20. Try to move the battery. 
  21. If it moves, then tighten the clamp.
